STROUMBAS YANNIS
Yannis Stroumbas was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, on October 20, 1973. He hails from Komotini, Greece, where he currently resides. He is a philologist teaching in secondary education, where he has served as a deputy principal and principal. His diploma thesis explores the hyper-real (as opposed to “surreal”) element in the works of Argyris Chionis. His Ph.D thesis explores the poetics of Giorgos Markopoulos. Stroumbas’ poetry, essays, and literary criticism have been published in print and online literary magazines and newspapers. His poems have been translated into English, Spanish, Italian, and German. He has been a member of the Thessaloniki Writers’ Society since 2013, the Poets’ Circle since 2018, and the Hellenic Authors’ Society since 2025.
In addition to his contributions to collective volumes, Stroumbas has published four poetry collections, two volumes of essays, two anthologies (on Alexandros Soutsos and Argyris Chionis), one study (on Argyris Chionis), and a volume of select poems translated in Spanish. His poetry collection "Perimeter" (Smili, Athens 2023) was honored with the Aikaterini Stathopoulou Award 2024 by the Academy of Athens.
