Sofia Kolotourou was born in Athens in 1973. She studied Medicine at the University of Crete (1998) and specialized in Cytology (2003). In 2022 she graduated from the Postgraduate Programme in Creative Writing of the University of Western Macedonia (stream: literature). She is deaf. She was Chair of the Akoustirixi Association Promoting Accessibility for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing for five years (2015-2020). She writes poetry and prose. She is a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society.
In December 2017, her “Third Generation” poetry collection was honoured with the State Award for Poetry.
In 2019, after a long struggle, thanks to the Akoustirixi Association, she managed to get Greek television broadcasts subtitled and ensure more widespread use of services allowing the hard of hearing to have access to information through written communication.
