Roula Alavera was born and educated in Thessaloniki.

She writes poetry, prose and essays.
She has collaborated with various newspapers.
Her poems have been published in various magazines and have been translated in German, Italian, Serbian, French, Bulgarian, Rumanian and Albanian. 
Various composers have written music based on her poems.
